I've been trying to name a deep, gnawing feeling t I've been trying to name a deep, gnawing feeling that I have been sitting uncomfortably with for the past few months.

And today I found it...careless.

Not betrayal. Not even outright rejection.

Just…careless.

It’s the quiet ache of realizing that people you’ve loved deeply...people you’ve shown up for, prayed for, supported, and served...are handling your heart with a kind of unintentional disregard. Not because they set out to hurt you, but because they aren’t paying attention to the weight of what you’ve given.

And when you’re someone who loves wholeheartedly, who gives generously, who notices, remembers, and shows up…carelessness can feel especially sharp.

Because you wouldn’t treat someone that way.

You know what it costs to love like that.

You know the intention behind it.

You know the care.

So when that same care isn’t returned, even in small, thoughtful ways, it can leave you wondering...

Did it matter? Do I matter?

But here’s what I’m slowly learning to sit with:

Carelessness in others does not diminish the value of what was given.

Love offered with sincerity is never wasted...even if it isn’t stewarded well on the other side.

And perhaps even more tenderly…not everyone has the capacity to carry what you bring.

Not everyone knows how to hold loyalty, compassion, and presence with the same reverence.

That doesn’t mean you gave too much.

It may simply mean you gave it to someone who didn’t know how to receive it.

There is grief in that.

But there is also clarity.

And clarity gives us perspective. It gives us permission to stop overextending where there is no attentiveness, to hold our offerings with greater discernment, and to remember that our worth is not determined by how carefully or carelessly someone else treats us.

God is never careless with our hearts.

Not one act of love, not one quiet sacrifice, not one unseen moment of showing up is overlooked by Him.

He sees.

He holds.

He honors what others may mishandle.

And maybe that’s where we begin again. Not by hardening our hearts, but by placing them more intentionally in the hands of the One who will never treat them carelessly.

At least that is where I am going to start...

“My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with m “My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’
And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’” Psalm 27:8

This is the posture I want us to take in this season.

Not striving.
Not performing.
Not trying to have it all figured out.

Just coming.

Coming as we are—
with our questions,
our weariness,
our hope,
our honest hearts.

As we begin this Come Sit With Me series, my prayer is that we would slow down enough to hear His invitation… and gently respond.

“Lord, I am coming.”

Will you come sit with me?
