Color analysis is more than just a trend—it’s a tool that can help you reflect your inner beauty. By discovering the colors that highlight your God-given features, you can shine from the inside out. God, the Creator of all beauty, desires to transform you from within so that you can radiate His light and love in every aspect of your life. Let’s explore how discovering your best colors can be a part of that beautiful journey.
WHAT IS COLOR ANALYSIS?
Have you ever exclaimed while trying to get dressed in the morning, “I have a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear?”
Imagine being able to open your closet and knowing precisely what to wear because everything in there makes you look and feel amazing. That’s the beauty of color analysis! It’s all about finding the colors that naturally complement your unique skin tone, eye color, and hair color. This isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling confident and avoiding those frustrating moments when you realize you’ve bought yet another outfit that doesn’t work for you.
By understanding your color palette, you can make smarter choices when shopping for clothes and makeup. You’ll save money and time and avoid those dreaded fashion mistakes where you buy something that ends up collecting dust in your closet because it doesn’t highlight your best features or brighten your appearance.
The idea of color analysis has been around for a while. It took off in the U.S. in the 1920s, thanks to new industries that made it easier to produce color swatches. It had a significant moment in the 1980s (many of you may have had a seasonal color analysis) and saw a resurgence around 2010, with color consultants all over the world fine-tuning the process. So, when you hear about color analysis, know that it’s more than just a trend—it’s a proven method to help you embrace your natural beauty and feel your best every day.
HOW DOES “STYLE BY COLOR” APPROACH COLOR ANALYSIS?
Style by Color founder Shari Braendel trained with the Color Me Beautiful System in 1989. It began as a four-season system and shifted to a twelve-season system. After using the seasonal color analysis system for over fifteen years, Shari concluded it did not work, so she began researching a better system.
In 2006, Shari developed the Color Code System. Her research determined that analyzing an individual’s dominant color characteristics (DCC) of eyes, skin, hair, and contrast levels produced an accurate result in comparison to reviewing the seasonal analysis system of an individual’s skin undertone and eye color. She combined seasons to create one code for each dominant color characteristic (DCC). The method considers the three properties of color (hue, value, and chroma) and the contrast levels of tonal color analysis.
I became certified as a Christian Image Consultant (CIC) with Style by Color in 2023. My certification trained me in Shari’s Color Code System and taught me how to style my clients, teaching them how to:
- Dress in their best pop colors, neutrals, and prints using tonal color analysis.
- Discover the accessories, makeup, shoes, and handbags that match their color code.
- Delight in their God-given body shape and learn how to dress with confidence.
- Declutter their closets by learning how to create a capsule wardrobe.
WHAT CAN COLOR ANALYSIS DO FOR YOU?
Picture this: no more standing in front of the mirror, second-guessing your outfit choices, or feeling like you’re blending into the background. Instead, imagine stepping out each day knowing that the colors you’re wearing aren’t just flattering—they’re a true reflection of your personality, grace, and unique beauty. Color analysis helps you achieve this by identifying the shades that naturally harmonize with your complexion, hair, and eyes.
As a certified Christian Image Consultant, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful this can be. Women who’ve felt frustrated with their wardrobes or uncertain about their style suddenly feel empowered. They start to see themselves differently—more beautifully, more authentically—and that shift affects everything. It’s about more than just clothes; it’s about experiencing the freedom and joy of aligning your outer appearance with the person God created you to be.
And the best part? This isn’t about adding more stress to your life or creating a list of rules to follow. It’s about simplifying and decluttering, about creating a capsule wardrobe that truly serves you. By discovering your color code, you can confidently let go of what doesn’t work and make space for what does. It’s a beautiful way to honor yourself and the God who designed you.
Moreover, color analysis is an investment in yourself that pays off in countless ways. Think of all the money you’ve spent on clothes that still have the tags on because they don’t quite suit you. With color analysis, every piece in your wardrobe becomes intentional, making shopping simpler and more enjoyable. You’ll be able to create outfits that effortlessly mix and match, saving you time and stress every morning.
But perhaps the most significant benefit is how color analysis can help you rediscover and celebrate your God-given beauty. It’s easy to get caught up in trends or to feel pressured to look a certain way. But when you understand your color code, you’re reminded that God created you uniquely—and that you don’t have to conform to anyone else’s idea of beauty. Instead, you can embrace the colors that make you feel most like yourself, allowing your inner light to shine even brighter.
In a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, color analysis offers a sense of clarity and peace. It’s not just about what you wear—it’s about how you see yourself and how you move through the world. It’s about embracing the freedom to be who God created you to be, inside and out.
HOW CAN COLOR ANALYSIS HELP REFLECT INNER BEAUTY?
...You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16 (The Message)
In this passage, Jesus calls us to be the “light of the world,” bringing out the “God-colors” in every corner of our lives. This powerful imagery beautifully aligns with the concept of color analysis and the idea of reflecting inner beauty outwardly. Just as light illuminates and enhances everything it touches, color analysis helps us discover the shades that highlight our God-given features, allowing our true beauty to shine through.
When Jesus speaks of us as light-bearers, He reminds us that our lives are meant to reveal God’s beauty and goodness to the world. Color analysis is one way we can do that—by embracing the colors that reflect who we are on the inside. Make no mistake; I am not talking about vanity or superficiality. It’s about letting the light within us shine as brightly as possible so others can see the work of God in our lives.
As we unclutter our souls and invite God to transform us from the inside out, we radiate His love, truth, and grace. Just as Jesus urges us not to hide our light under a bucket, color analysis encourages us to step into the world confidently, reflecting the beauty He has placed within us. By understanding and embracing our unique color palette, we aren’t just enhancing our appearance–we’re choosing to live out our identity as God’s beloved daughters, made to shine His light in every area of our lives.
In this way, color analysis can become a spiritual practice, a way to honor the Creator who designed us with care and intention. It’s a tool that helps us see ourselves as God sees us—beautiful, purposeful, and radiant with His love. When we wear the colors that make us feel most like ourselves, we’re not just dressing our bodies but our souls, allowing God’s light to shine through every part of who we are.
