Do you want to speak kind and true words? Learn how to use these 4 simple phrases to encourage others and bring hope and healing.
THE POWER OF WORDS
Words can speak life…or death.
They can build up…or tear down.
Words can encourage…or discourage.
Once spoken, they cannot be unspoken.
We can hear 9 good things from throughout the day and 1 bad thing…and we will remember the bad thing.
A few weeks ago I heard Karen Ehman speak. She is the author of many books, but she spoke about her most recent one entitled, KEEP IT SHUT: What to say, How to say it, and When to say nothing at all.
She was real, funny, challenging, and convicting. She shared many personal stories from her own life about her mouth had gotten her into big trouble. She also taught us how to use our words to bless and encourage.
I have been thinking and praying about what she shared and trying so very hard to carefully watch my words.
QUOTATIONS ON THE POWER OF ENCOURAGING WORDS
“Good words are worth much and cost little.”
George Herbert
“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”
Mother Teresa
So I began making a list of words I could say to encourage, build up, and bless those in my life.
Well, actually phrases.
And I want to reach through the screen today and speak these words of truth into your life.
Maybe you need to hear them right now.
Or maybe you need to share at least one of these phrases with someone today.
4 PHRASES THAT SPEAK ENCOURAGING WORD TO OTHERS
ENCOURAGING PHRASE #1: “YOU MATTER.”
God sees you, knows you and loves you…and so do I.
You matter to Him and to me. You have value and worth.
BIBLE VERSES THAT SPEAK ENCOURAGEMENT
Psalm 139:14 says you are “fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Luke 12:7 reminds us that the “very hairs on your head are numbered.”
Zephaniah 3:17 says, “God rejoices over you with gladness; He exults over you with loud singing.”
ENCOURAGING PHRASE #2: “ME TOO.”
We all have stuff. We are all sinners and fall short. We all need grace. Yes, we are all in this together!
I get your pain, your struggles, your insecurities. I am right there with you.
I am no better than you, but together we can get stronger.
SCRIPTURE VERSES THAT PROVIDE ENCOURAGING WORDS
1 Thessalonians 5:11 tells us to,
“…speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind.”
Romans 1:12 urges us to use words “so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.”
ENCOURAGING PHRASE #3: “I’M HERE.”
I may not know the right thing to say or exactly how to help, but I will be here.
You can count on me to show up.
I will not leave or give up. I am here to the end.
HOW THE BIBLE TELLS US TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS
Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times and a brother is born for adversity.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 tells us that, “Two are better than one for they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one can lift up his friend…”
ENCOURAGING PHRASE #4: “I’ll PRAY.”
The best thing I can do for you is to take you to my Jesus.
And whether you know Him or not, He knows you wants a relationship with you.
He can fix what’s broken, so I commit to faithfully pray for you.
SCRIPTURE VERSES ABOUT PRAYING ENCOURAGING WORDS
Galations 6:2 tells us to, “bear one another’s burdens.”
James 5:16 “…pray for one another that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power while it is working.”
Matthew 18:19-20 “If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them.”

Thank you Carla! (I hope this doesn’t post twice as I had to redo my password). You are a dear! A phrase that helped me many years ago was from a coworker, “Don’t let them steal your joy”. This was a great help in the face of a negative work environment. And it is a reflection of Philippians chapter 4!
